Salary Schedule $60,466- $120,774** (Starting Salary Range $60,466 - $91,997**)

POSITION

Under the direction of the Dean of (Deaf Studies and Special Services), assess student eligibility for DSPS (Disabled Student Program and Services); provide specialized counseling, academic advising and registration assistance; teach developmental classes; provide campus outreach for students with learning disabilities; and maintain all required records. This position may have assignments in the evenings and/or weekend and/or at off campus locations.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Pre-screen students for symptoms of possible learning disabilities and schedule follow-up testing when appropriate.

2. Administer learning disability assessment tests in accordance with the State of California mandated Eligibility Model, including, but not

limited to, the WAIS- III and/or the Woodcock-Johnson III Batteries.

3. Interpret results of testing done by this department or of testing done by other schools or licensed professionals.

4. Identify educational limitations of and appropriate accommodations for students with learning disabilities.

5. Counsel students about the results of the tests and, when indicated, appropriate accommodations such as books on tape, spelling and

spell check devices, and other aids.

6. Develop student educational plans, including recommended courses, services and accommodations for students with learning disabilities.

7. Provide technical assistance for college personnel in meeting the federal guidelines of the Americans with Disabilities Act, 504

regulations, Title V guidelines governing the implementation of AB 77, and all other laws that pertain to access for persons with disabilities

in higher education.

8. Conduct or assist in conducting in-service trainings about learning disabilities.

9. Consult with counselors within DSPS or with appropriate releases with outside counselors, instructors, or outside parties such as the

Department of Rehabilitation.

10. Maintain appropriate student records for purpose of evaluation and accountability, including federal and state reporting.

11. Work with high school personnel to provide smooth transition for students with learning disabilities entering Ohlone College .

12. Participate in full-time faculty responsibilities including faculty and departmental meetings, community liaison, curriculum development,

and committee assignments.

13. Participate in outreach activities with other professional department staff.

14. Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

1. Master's in (1) Rehabilitation Counseling, (2) Special Education and 24 or more units in upper division or graduate level course work in counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology or social work; or (3) counseling, guidance, student personnel, psychology, career development, or social welfare; and 12 or more semester units in upper division or graduate level course work specifically in counseling or rehabilitation of individuals with disabilities or 2 years of full-time experience, or the equivalent, or (4) Master’s in Learning Disabilities, Special Education, Psychology, Educational Psychology or Rehabilitation Counseling and 15 semester units of upper division or graduate study in the area of Learning Disabilities or the equivalent.*

2. Sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

3. Demonstrated ability to teach a variety of developmental skills courses at the community college level.

4. Demonstrated ability to administer and interpret standardized tests to determine eligibility for learning disabilities services.

5. Successful completion of the California Community Colleges Chancellors Office Learning Disabilities Eligibility Training OR be eligible for and agree to successfully compete the training as soon as possible

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

1. Successful completion of the California Community Colleges Chancellors Office Learning Disability Eligibility training.

2. Ability to work with students of widely varying social, economic and educational backgrounds.

3. Experience teaching college students with disabilities.

4. Training and experience in the administration, scoring and interpretation of appropriate diagnosis of assessments to include the

Woodcock-Johnson Tests of Cognitive Abilities and Test of Achievement (WJ- III ) and the Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS III ).

5. Experience advising/counseling adults with learning disabilities.

6. Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with local service agencies.

7. Possess the understanding and commitment to the community college philosophy.

8. Experience using computer aided instruction.

9. Good verbal and written communications skills.

10. Evidence of ability to work successfully in a team environment

11. Demonstration of a pattern of participation in professional growth activities.

CONTRACT PERIOD

This is a full-time position commencing Fall semester, 2008. The appointee would be expected to work a minimum of 40 hours per week. The work year is 185 days. Continuance in this position is dependent on satisfactory evaluations and performance.

SALARY: Starting salary begins at $60,466 - $91,997 (BA to Ph.D.) based on education and related experience.
