FULL TIME, TENURE TRACK, 10 MONTHS
The Grossmont-Cuyamaca Community College District is accepting applications for this academic position located at GROSSMONT COLLEGE . While the current vacancy exists at GROSSMONT COLLEGE , applicants should understand that they are subject to assignment to any District facility.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: APPLICANTS MUST MEET ONE OF THE FOLLOWING CRITERIA:
- Any Bachelor’s Degree and two years of experience in American Sign Language , OR
- any Associate’s Degree and six years of experience in American Sign Language OR
- a current California Community College Credential that permits full-time service as an instructor in American Sign Language OR
- The equivalent. If you are applying based on “the equivalent”, you must complete a Full-Time Academic Equivalency Form located at http://www.gcccd.edu/hr/Misc.PDF/EQUIVFRM.Full.Time.pdf. This form MUST be submitted as part of the application procedures.
NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants must demonstrate:
- Possession of native or near-native fluency in American Sign Language.
- Teaching or training experience in American Sign Language at the community college or university level.
- Knowledge of curriculum development in American Sign Language or related field to meet the needs of all students including diverse student populations.
- Experience teaching vocabulary and linguistic aspects of American Sign Language.
- Ability to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team to develop program curriculum of Deaf people, deafness and its impact upon Deaf people, Deaf culture and community, and familiarity with current literature related to the Deaf culture.
- Ability to successfully instruct, motivate and manage community college classes with students from diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, linguistic, disability, gender, and ethnic backgrounds.
- Evidence of effective organizational skills, writing skills and communication skills.
- Knowledge of instructional technology used with American Sign Language.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS Candidates will also be evaluated for qualifications in the following:
- Evidence of professional growth in teaching methods of American Sign Language.
- Evidence of teaching using an immersion style curriculum.
- Certification from a professional organization such as ASLTA, RID, or other related group.
- Willingness to become involved in the daily affairs, growth, and coordination of the department and participation in campus affairs.
- Demonstration of involvement with the Deaf community such as participation in Deaf events or related activities at the college level and/or in the community.
- Perform other duties consistent with faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Regular/contract instructors participate in the planning, implementation, and evaluation of educational programs, courses and other experiences that will directly result in the educational growth of the students and support advancement of the visions, missions and values of the college and District. Instructors may be assigned any course in the American Sign Language program and a combination of day, evening and weekend courses offered by a college that is strongly committed to the “open door” concept. Instructors will be expected to perform other duties consistent with their faculty job description as stated in the faculty contract.
INITIAL SALARY PLACEMENT RANGE : $41,517 - $71,685/Yr. per negotiated agreement
SALARY SCHEDULE RANGE : $41,517 (Class I, Step 1) - $88,292 (Class VII , Step 30)/Yr. per negotiated agreement
Initial placement is based upon academic preparation from an accredited college or university and professional experience. A maximum of nine (9) years of professional work experience may be granted upon review and approval. Placement will not be granted for hourly, part-time, practice, or cadet teaching. Candidates are encouraged to visit the District Employment Services Department website for a copy of the salary schedule which includes placement provisions.
STARTING DATE: Fall 2008. Pending successful completion of a required pre-placement physical.
